How to Get a Florida Concealed Carry License

The State of Florida is a Shall Issue state and will issue its Concealed Carry of Weapon (CCW) license to both residents and non-residents. The Florida CCW license is good for 7 years and has reciprocity with 34 other states. The Florida permit is a great choice for anyone who wishes to carry a concealed firearm or other weapon and desires the ability to travel freely to many other states without the burden of obtaining other permits.

Step 1 – Meet the basic eligibility requirements

Age 21 years or older

United States citizen OR Permanent Resident Alien (must provide card)

Must reside in the United States OR provide documentation to prove military deployment

Must not have a disqualifying criminal record

Must display competency with a firearm, as indicated by approved training document

Upon application for a Florida CCW license, an applicant must present a certificate of training from an approved agency or other listed approved documentation. Active and retired military are exempt from this training requirement, but must provide adequate documentation as indicated in the application instructions.

Step 3 – Complete Application

If you are a Florida resident, the application can be completely quickly and conveniently in-person at any one of the approved Florida tax collector offices, listed HERE.

Step 4 – Other Required Information

You will be required to submit with your application a legible set of fingerprints, a color passport-type photo, and pay the required fees. Florida residents can complete all of this in one place at any of the tax collector offices mentioned in Step 3. Non-residents are referred to the application instructions for more information about what is required.

Fees include a $70 license fee, a $42 fingerprint fee (if prints are taken at the regional office) and a $22 service fee for a total of $134. More information on the fees can be found HERE.
